From now on, free color choice for taxis in Saxony-Anhalt

Saxony-Anhalt no longer prescribes a uniform color for taxis. Taxi companies can now also use vehicles in colors other than light ivory, as the Ministry for Infrastructure and Digital Affairs in Magdeburg announced.

"The new regulation brings a number of simplifications and, above all, economic advantages for the companies," said Transport Minister Lydia Hüskens (FDP).

Additionally, it no longer fits the current times for the legislature to dictate what color taxis are allowed to be. Saxony-Anhalt is now one of five federal states where this regulation no longer exists. Labeling and taxi light are still required.

“At the same time, we are also creating a measure of fairness and flexibility in the competition, as more and more other providers are entering the market who are not bound by rigid regulations,” the Transport Minister further explained.

The decision has been coordinated with the taxi industry and the chambers of industry and commerce. There are a few conditions: The taxi companies must have their headquarters or a branch within the meaning of commercial law in Saxony-Anhalt, according to the ministry's decree. In addition, the deviating color must be entered in the abbreviated official version of the permit document. Furthermore, the vehicles must be recognizable as taxis at all times. The corresponding lettering and the taxi light on the roof of the cars are still required.
