Škoda Elroq: Czech automaker begins production of its most affordable battery-electric model
The compact SUV is being produced on the same flexible production line as the new Škoda Enyaq and the Octavia. Last year, the manufacturer relocated part of the Octavia production to Kvasiny, enabling up to 600 Elroq units to roll off the line daily.
The list price is on a comparable level in some markets with the Škoda Karoq, its counterpart with conventional engines. This positions the Elroq as one of the most affordable offerings in its segment in the European market. It shares the MEB platform with the Enyaq, which was among the best-selling electric vehicles in Europe last year.
Andreas Dick, Škoda Auto Board Member for Production and Logistics, commented: “The production start of our new compact SUV Elroq at our main plant is a tremendous achievement for the entire team. I thank all my colleagues for their dedication during the preparation of this milestone. The Elroq shares the assembly line with its electric sister model, the new Škoda Enyaq. Together with the local production of battery systems for the MEB platform, we create significant synergies in production and cost efficiency, ultimately benefiting our customers. By producing this key model at our headquarters, we underscore the important strategic role of Mladá Boleslav as the heart of our brand.”
Production on a unique, flexible assembly line
The new Škoda Elroq is being produced at the main plant of the Czech car manufacturer in Mladá Boleslav – the only location in Europe within the Volkswagen Group where the Octavia with a combustion engine on the MQB platform and the recently revised fully electric Enyaq on the MEB platform are being manufactured side by side. Thanks to this strategy, Škoda Auto can adjust production at the plant to meet customer demand at short notice.
By relocating part of the Octavia production to Kvasiny last year, the company has created free production capacity. This allows up to 600 Elroq to be produced daily in Mladá Boleslav.
In Mladá Boleslav, Škoda also manufactures the battery systems for the MEB vehicles. In addition to the new Elroq and the upgraded Enyaq, these drive batteries are also used in electric vehicles of other brands within the Volkswagen Group. In December 2024, the plant reached a milestone: the one millionth battery system produced.
Compact SUV Elroq: a strategically important addition to the model portfolio
The Škoda Elroq is the brand's first battery-electric vehicle in the strategically important compact SUV segment and is the first production vehicle to implement the new Modern Solid design language. Considering the battery size and extensive standard equipment, it ranks among the most affordable electric vehicles in its segment on the European market with an entry price of around 33,000 euros without potential state subsidies. In Germany, the entry price for the Elroq is 33,900 euros for the Elroq 50 Tour (Škoda Elroq 50 Tour 125 kW (170 hp): Electricity consumption (combined): 15.8 – 16.5 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions (combined): 0 – 0 g/km; CO2 class: A – A).
In many markets, the list price is comparable to that of the Škoda Karoq, its counterpart with conventional engines. This underscores Škoda Auto's commitment to offering customers choice and providing the best of both propulsion worlds. More information on the benefits of electric vehicles is available in the Volkswagen Group's electromobility info hub, 'Enter Electric!'
Škoda offers the Elroq with three battery sizes and several power levels. The system power ranges from 125 kW(1) to 210 kW(1) (Škoda Elroq 85 210 kW (286 hp): Power consumption (combined): 15.2 – 16.6 kWh/100 km; CO2 emissions (combined): 0 – 0 g/km; CO2 class: A – A), with a maximum battery capacity of 82 kWh gross (77 kWh net). The Elroq 85 can travel up to 581 kilometers on a single charge in the WLTP cycle(2). Depending on the battery variant, it charges from ten to 80 percent in just 25 to 28 minutes.
The demand for the new Škoda Elroq is high. By the end of 2024, Škoda has already received over 20,000 orders. Further details about the Elroq are provided by Škoda in the international Škoda Podcast.
- (1) The availability of the maximum electric power can be limited. The power available in individual driving situations depends on various factors, such as ambient temperature and the state of charge, as well as the temperature, condition, or physical age of the high-voltage battery.
- (2) The ranges specified in the text were determined using the WLTP test procedure. The actual range depends on factors such as personal driving style, route characteristics, outside temperature, weather conditions, use of heating and air conditioning, preconditioning, number of passengers.
