FahrtKlar: New continuing-education app for taxi and rental-car drivers launched
Taxi- and rental-car drivers can, with the new smartphone app “FahrtKlar,” immediately train themselves for free and in multiple languages. The application was developed by the Federal Association wirfahren, the Taxi Association Germany and the Federal Association of Chauffeur- and Rental-Car Companies Germany. It is intended to facilitate voluntary professional qualification through short digital learning units and can be flexibly used in daily work. According to the participating associations, the offering is available in twelve languages.
The application provides knowledge on road safety, legal regulations, and service quality. Other focal points are the handling of conflict situations, de-escalation, and the interaction with passengers with mobility impairments. The content is intended to help drivers regularly engage with the requirements of their profession.
Short learning units for everyday professional life
The training concept is designed for mobile use. Drivers can complete individual learning units on their smartphones, thereby using shorter breaks between trips for further education. The associations rely on continuous knowledge transfer rather than longer in-person trainings or mandatory examinations.
The learning content is based, among other things, on existing question catalogs of the Federal Institute for Roads and Traffic. In addition, the application covers further topics from the professional everyday life in taxi and rental-car transport. Thus the training should cover, in addition to legal and traffic-related knowledge, also practical requirements for passenger transport.
According to the initiators, it is planned to continuously review, develop further, and supplement the training content. To this end, the three associations intend to engage in exchange with federal and state ministries as well as other actors in the transport sector.
Knowledge Duels and Point System as Learning Incentives
A component of FahrtKlar is the gamified design of training. Users receive virtual badges for completed learning units. In addition, they can compare their knowledge in direct duels with other drivers.
Points are awarded for correct answers and successful knowledge duels. A leaderboard shows the participants' ranking relative to other users. With these features, the initiators aim to create incentives to use the application regularly and to repeatedly engage with the training topics.
At the end of the intended learning path there is a final quiz. Those who complete it successfully receive a personal certificate. It documents participation in the voluntary qualification and the knowledge demonstrated within the application. According to the associations, drivers can use it to demonstrate that they have engaged with job-specific topics beyond the statutory requirements.
Companies can integrate their own training content
In addition to individual use by drivers, FahrtKlar is also intended for use in taxi and rental-car companies. Enterprises can customize the application on request and supplement it with their own training content.
This makes it possible to combine the general continuing education offering with company-specific qualification measures. For example, companies can provide additional content that is tailored to their internal requirements. The app is thus designed for both individual continuing education and for training within individual companies.
Berlin Traffic Safety Association supports the project
The Berlin Traffic Safety Association accompanies the launch of the application. The organization is engaged in promoting road safety and raising awareness among different road users.
The support relates in particular to the imparting of safety-relevant knowledge in professional road traffic. Taxi- and rental-car drivers spend a substantial part of their working time on the road and regularly come into contact with different road users.
Therefore, the Berlin Traffic Safety Association supports the approach of embedding road safety more firmly into daily professional life through a low-threshold digital training offering.
Three industry associations develop a joint offering
FahrtKlar is backed by the Federal Association wirfahren, the German Taxi Association, and the Federal Association of Chauffeur- and Rental-Car Companies in Germany. The three organizations have jointly initiated and developed the continuing education offering.
For the conceptual and technical implementation, the associations collaborated with Exord GmbH. The company took on the role of the digitalization partner.
The project targets both the taxi and rental-car industries. Through the joint development, the participating associations aim to create a cross-industry offering that can be used for professional development by individual drivers as well as by companies.
