TMV congratulates the Union on the election victory – and makes demands on the new government

The Taxi and Rental Car Association (TMV) is relying on the new government and emphasizes the desire for cooperation. According to TMV, urgent issues in infrastructure, economy, and administration must be addressed in the new legislative period.

President Thomas Kroker and Chief Executive Patrick Meinhardt, in their congratulatory letter to Friedrich Merz, Carsten Linnemann, and Thorsten Frei, express clear demands. In the past, there has been a trusting exchange on issues related to transport, economy, labor market, energy, and environment. Additionally, there is close contact through the Mittelstands- und Wirtschaftsunion. According to the association, three topics are now particularly in focus.

Investment backlog in infrastructure

Mobility is one of the central questions in the innovation competition.

“We don’t need a ministry in Germany that dedicates three-quarters of its efforts to digital matters and only one-quarter to transport,” says Patrick Meinhardt. “In the future, we finally need, in addition to a digital ministry, an independent infrastructure ministry where transport and mobility are a focus.”

Furthermore, the TMV emphasizes that a nationwide public transport initiative is needed, which includes taxis. Especially in rural areas, innovative solutions like the public transport taxi are in demand. The association also values openness to technology when it comes to propulsion systems.

More support for small and medium-sized enterprises and resistance against Uber & Co.

The TMV calls for targeted support for small and medium-sized businesses. After the sudden end of e-mobility funding, trust in the reliability of the Ministry of Economic Affairs has significantly decreased.

“The Ministry of Climate Protection with its attached economic division must once again become fundamentally a ministry of the economy and especially of small and medium-sized enterprises,” says Thomas Kroker.

Reducing bureaucracy is also important, which must include agencies like the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt. And last but not least, a nationwide concept against Uber and similar companies must finally be found.

Strengthening the Associations

The competence of the associations must be integrated into the political decision-making process at an early stage, because only with cooperation can a disaster like the failed Kleine Fachkunde be prevented.

“A real change in the culture of cooperation between politics, administration, and the medium-sized taxi and rental car industry would be to establish a mobility council. We as the Taxi and Rental Car Association Germany are available as reliable partners with our expertise for all upcoming decisions,” emphasizes Patrick Meinhardt.
