Volvo ES90: Fast Charging and New Safety Features in Focus

Volvo is introducing an 800-volt architecture for the first time in the new ES90 premium sedan. It reduces heat buildup during charging, increases efficiency, and enables significantly shorter charging times. In the future, up to 250 kilometers of range are expected to be added at fast-charging points in around ten minutes. Acceleration performance also benefits from the higher voltage, while the battery and electric motors become lighter thanks to material savings.

Production and market launch

The ES90 is already available to order and is scheduled for delivery later this year. At the same time, the large EX90 SUV will switch to the new 800-volt technology for the 2026 model year. Production of the updated EX90 starts in mid-November 2025.

Computing power for driver-assistance systems

Alongside the new charging architecture, both models receive an upgrade to the core computing platform. Two NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin processors deliver around 500 trillion operations per second. This processing power lays the foundation for enhanced driver-assistance and safety features.

New safety features

Updates include an enhanced emergency steering function that also works even in the dark, as well as a new generation of Park Pilot Assist that can also handle parallel parking. In addition, an improved emergency braking system is available that, in the event of a health-related impairment of the driver, automatically brings the vehicle to a stop and uses an integrated eCall function to contact an emergency call center. Via the Connected Safety function, vehicles can also warn each other of slippery conditions, hazardous locations, or accidents.
