The Mercedes-Benz Group concludes 2024 with a solid quarter and annual sales of 2.4 million vehicles.

The Mercedes-Benz Group achieved its best sales quarter of the past year in the fourth quarter of 2024 with 625,800 cars and vans sold. In a challenging global market environment, 2,389,000 cars and vans were sold worldwide in 2024.

"In 2024, Mercedes-Benz has once again demonstrated the radiance of our brand and the breadth of our product range. This led to strong sales of our top-end and core vehicles in the fourth quarter. We will continue to consistently strengthen our portfolio. With the new CLA, we are launching the biggest product offensive in the history of our company this year," says Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG.

Mercedes-Benz Cars

In the fourth quarter, the sales of Mercedes-Benz Cars rose to 520,100 units compared to the previous quarter, reaching the level of the previous year. In 2024, Mercedes-Benz Cars achieved annual sales of 1,983,400 units in the fourth quarter thanks to good developments in Germany, China, and the USA.

Sales in the top-end segment grew by 34% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter to 82,800 units, mainly supported by sales of Mercedes-AMG, the S-Class, and G-Class, as well as solid demand in the USA. The G-Class recorded its best sales quarter to date following the introduction of new models in 2024, including the new electric G-Class. Mercedes-AMG also achieved a new quarterly record, thanks to further improved product availability and customer demand particularly for the Mercedes-AMG GT and Mercedes-AMG GLC models.

Sales of top-end vehicles reached 281,500 units for the entire year, dropping below the level of 2023, mainly due to market conditions in China, model changes, and weaker demand for electric vehicles. The S-Class remained the undisputed market leader in its segment with a market share of around 50% in all key regions.

Sales of Plug-in Hybrids Increase

Sales in the core segment grew by 6% in 2024 to 1,167,100 vehicles. This increase is due to strong demand for the E-Class and GLC models, the best-selling model series from Mercedes-Benz. Sales of plug-in hybrids increased worldwide by 13% compared to the previous year with growth in all regions. A slower ramp-up of electric vehicles in key markets led to lower sales of battery-electric vehicles in 2024.

“We concluded the year with a strong last quarter, particularly through sales of top-end vehicles, especially the G-Class. I would like to expressly thank our customers for their continued trust and loyalty to our brand and am already looking forward to the world premiere of our new CLA models, where cutting-edge technology and breathtaking design merge,” said Britta Seeger, Member of the Board of Management of Mercedes-Benz Group AG, Sales.

Mercedes-Benz Vans Sales at Annual Peak

The global sales of Mercedes-Benz Vans increased by 16% in the fourth quarter compared to the previous quarter, achieving an annual peak of 105,700 units sold, despite global macroeconomic challenges. The sales growth was primarily driven by the European market, with an increase in sales of Midsize and Small Vans, while sales of Large Vans remained at a stable level compared to the previous quarter.

In the full year 2024, Mercedes-Benz Vans achieved sales of 405,600 units. Sales were mainly influenced by the planned discontinuation of the Metris (Vito) in the USA and the model changes for Midsize Vans in Europe (1st half) and China (2nd half). Additionally, a declining market trend for large combustion engine vans in the USA and midsize combustion engine vans in China impacted total sales. In Germany and the USA, sales in the commercial segment declined mainly due to lower demand in the recreational vehicle business compared to the previous year.

Sales of eVans Increased

The updated product portfolio was well received by customers, reflected in a fourth-quarter sales increase of 10% for commercial vans to 86,300 units and 53% for private vans to 19,400 units compared to the previous quarter. The sales of eVans rose by 59% in the fourth quarter compared to the third quarter to 6,900 units – mainly due to the ramp-up of the new eSprinter, despite a subdued market environment for electric vehicles in Europe. The total annual sales of eVans reached 19,500 units worldwide, representing a 5% share of total sales.

"The global macroeconomic challenges have impacted our worldwide sales of 405,600 units, yet we concluded 2024 with a solid fourth quarter. With our strong and fully updated product portfolio, we are well-positioned in an intense competitive environment in all markets and across all segments," said Klaus Rehkugler, Head of Mercedes-Benz Vans Sales & Marketing.
