Hamburg's transport experiment "Huus – Na Huus, to de Bahn" has not yet been fully exploited. As the Hamburg Transport Authority and the participating companies Hansa-Taxi and Freenow by Lyft reported after more than 100 days of project duration, demand currently lags behind the available capacities. Nevertheless, the participants rate the launch of the offering as successful and expect, particularly in autumn and winter, an increase in usage.

Since April 14, passengers in selected Hamburg outskirts can book taxi rides at a fixed price of six euros. The service enables trips to the nearest train station or from there to home. Bookings are made through the Hansa-Taxi and Freenow by Lyft apps.

Demand is expected to rise seasonally

According to the transport authority, the project has started successfully, although the available trips have not yet been fully utilized.

Hansa-Taxi expects, according to the company, a noticeable increase in demand starting in autumn to more than 1,000 trips per month. Freenow by Lyft also points to existing interest in the offering. According to the company, searches within the app, especially in northern Hamburg, show an increased need for a reliable connection to the rail network.

Offer initially limited to selected areas

The offer is generally available Sundays through Thursdays between 9:00 PM and 12:30 AM. On Fridays, Saturdays, and on evenings before holidays, trips can be booked between 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM.

The transport trial aims to improve the accessibility of public transport in Hamburg's outer districts. The service is initially limited to areas in the western, northeastern, and southeastern parts of the city. These include, among others, the railway stations Blankenese, Rissen, Poppenbüttel, and Bergedorf. The transport authority will decide at a later date whether to expand the project. (Source: dpa)
