TMV will strengthen rental-car inspections with digital methods.
The Taxi and Rental Car Association Germany (TMV) is calling for an expansion of the transport company database to cover the entire passenger transport sector. TMV President Thomas Kroker and Office Manager Nico Höttges discussed this in Berlin with Henning Rehbaum. The CDU member of the Bundestag is the deputy chair of the Transport Committee. At the meeting in the Jakob-Kaiser-Haus, there were also discussions about amendments to the Passenger Transport Act, digital checks in the rental car sector, and the economic situation of the industry.
More transparency in the passenger transport sector
According to the association, expanding the Transport Companies Registry would provide additional market transparency. The focus is, in particular, on platform-mediated car rental companies. Rehbaum has supported the association's proposal.
The Transport Companies Registry is maintained by the Federal Office for Logistics and Mobility. The TMV wants to expand the roster of passenger-transport companies recorded there and thus, according to its own statements, create the prerequisites for better market oversight.
Digital verification of the return obligation
Another focus of the discussion was digital control options. It centered in particular on the return obligation for rental cars anchored in passenger transport law.
According to TMV, possible violations of this requirement can now be evaluated using software. The association sees in this a way to conduct official inspections more efficiently. Rehbaum had familiarized himself with the corresponding digital verification procedures during the discussion.
Association hands over position papers
The TMV also handed two documents outlining its political demands to the member of the Bundestag. These included a position paper on the amendment of the Passenger Transport Act, the Regulation on the operation of motor vehicle companies in passenger transport and the Professional Entry Regulation for road passenger transport as well as the association's statement on the draft bill for a cash-register requirement.
In addition to regulatory issues, the discussion partners, according to the association, addressed the economic situation of the taxi and rental car industry. In doing so, the TMV particularly pointed to the burdens caused by persistently high fuel prices. (Source: Taxi and Rental Car Association Germany)
