Warning strikes in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern – you can rely on taxis

(dpa/tk) In the wage dispute of public transportation in MV, the signs continue to point to confrontation. The union wants to increase the pressure with further warning strike days this and next week.

Commuters, students, and other public transport passengers in many regions of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania will once again need to exercise patience in the coming days. The warning strikes in the municipal transport companies continue.

According to Verdi, the strike days are today, Friday, as well as Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Nine transport companies across the state are affected. During these days, a ballot on indefinite strikes is to be conducted.

The actions are intended to increase pressure on municipal employers in the current wage dispute in public transport. According to reports, about 2,800 employees nationwide are affected by the negotiations that began at the end of January. The Verdi union is demanding a wage increase of 430 euros per month and an annual special payment of 500 euros. The employers argue that this is not feasible.

Anyone who wants - or needs - to switch to a taxi should plan their trip early. In the case of a spontaneous booking, passengers may need to be a bit more patient. And while taxi companies are bound to tariffs, Uber & Co. will likely take advantage of the public transport (ÖPNV) customers' emergency situation and turn the "price screw."
