Upheaval at the taxi association – Patrick Meinhardt leaves the TMV
The president of the Taxi- and Rental-Car Association (TMV), Thomas Kroker, did not want to miss the opportunity to personally bid Patrick Meinhardt a very warm farewell today in Munich. Kroker thanked Patrick Meinhardt for the TMV's entire political groundwork since its founding five years ago:
“Patrick Meinhardt was, for us, the face of the TMV in Berlin, constantly in the Bundestag, in the ministries, with other associations and at central evening events. Patrick is a networker who brings people together, opens doors, because he comes across as persistent and sympathetic, and has a good instinct for which actions the taxi- and rental-car industry must be present at.”
The taxi and rental-car industry, according to Kroker, has never been so well connected in the association landscape of the federal capital as in the last five years. The TMV is also firmly anchored in politics.
“Even the mere fact that the new Federal Minister of Transport, Patrick Schnieder, received our presidium and the board of the Berlin Taxi Guild on the occasion of its 125th anniversary in the Ministry of Transport was a visible sign of that. At political meetings he was sometimes greeted as 'Mr. Taxi,'” said Kroker further.
TMV Motto: Do + Make + Network
Aber auch für den Verband intern und in den Landesverbänden sei Meinhardt kreativ und präsent gewesen, wie Thomas Kroker hervorhebt:
"He was the creator of our slogan: 'TMV = Do + Make + Network', had the idea for a think tank to show new perspectives beyond the horizon of current topics, developed the TMV profiles TMV aktuell, TMV intern and, above all, TMV direkt with a multitude of politicians, conceived the idea of taxi ambassadors and put it into practice, initiated the honoring of long-standing association members and established us as a partner of the Economic Summer in Berlin. He leaves behind a politically well-run house for the TMV in the federal capital."
Abschied mit Wehmut
Und auch Patrick Meinhardt sieht auf den heutigen Tag mit einem lachenden und einem weinenden Auge:
"Today I think with a heavy heart and at the same time with deep friendship about our founding and honorary chairman Michael Müller, from whom we had to say goodbye far too soon only recently."
Meinhardt further explained that he was extremely grateful to Müller for having brought him into the young association as federal managing director and later chief executive.
„From the very beginning I was enthused by the idea of a TMV family that is not a loose alliance of interests, but a strong community with a pronounced sense of togetherness that also radiates this into politics“, emphasizes Meinhardt. „We have really succeeded in this in recent years, of which I am very proud. The TMV is now an indispensable part of the political stage in mobility policy.“
Patrick Meinhardt says that he has been happy about the wonderful time at TMV:
„Real new friendships have formed here, and I have had the privilege to meet many wonderful entrepreneurial personalities, great drivers, and committed association representatives. Whoever has internalized the taxi gene once remains connected to the trade: The love for the taxi will continue to accompany me.“
Embarking on New Challenges
As Patrick Meinhardt himself has stated, he has enjoyed these five years of rebuilding work and is leaving his role at the TMV only reluctantly; now a number of new things are coming his way, which he is curious about and which he intends to tackle with full force.
“The requests to my consulting agency for the development of political concepts, for seminars, strategic planning, and moderations have risen noticeably; in 2026 we will found two new federal associations - one in the area of education, my long-standing passion, and one to strengthen representation of the SME sector, another of my core themes - in which I should actively participate, and I also want more time for the chairmanship of the Foundation for Core Values and Intercultural Understanding, which organizes the prayer breakfasts in the German Bundestag and the state parliaments and is built on a network of 250 current and former members of parliament, and for the chair of the largest evangelical church congregation in our church district in Gesundbrunnen. And I have a certain sense that I will also continue to be active in the taxi and rental car industry in one way or another and would like to as well. I am very curious about the coming months.”
Meinhardt wants the taxi industry to continue presenting itself with confidence
Meinhardt encourages the taxi and rental-car industry to adopt a confident stance, but also to face the future’s issues, such as alternative mobility forms or autonomous driving, not to be carried along, but to actively and assertively shape them:
„If you truly want to fight Uber & Co., you must absolutely hold policymakers to account on minimum tariffs and the fight against social fraud and undeclared work. But the industry must also become more fundamental: this is about the foundations of our social market economy, this is about the rules of fair competition, this is about the values of the honest merchant against predatory capitalism and the perversion of our economic system by anonymous platform providers who take no responsibility, do nothing for their home regions, and massively jeopardize the existence of our SME-based trades.”
President warmly bids farewell to his managing director
