Kretschmann advocates for a price reduction at the charging station

(dpa/lsw) The ramp-up of e-mobility is not progressing as the politicians had hoped. The Minister President of Baden-Württemberg has a proposal.

From the perspective of Baden-Württemberg's Prime Minister Winfried Kretschmann, the electricity prices at charging stations for electric cars should be reduced. More predictability is needed, said the Green politician in Stuttgart.

“That's why I propose that for at least ten years, affordable electricity can be refueled at electric charging stations.”

Lowering Prices Better Than Subsidies

It is known that the price of charging electricity is crucially important for people's decision on whether to buy an electric car. A sustainable reduction in prices at charging stations is a better way than a high purchase subsidy, which could disappear overnight. He has already presented this proposal to Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens), and he agreed in principle, said Kretschmann.

Purchase Incentives are Important

The electric car boom in Germany came to an abrupt halt last year. According to the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), only around 380,600 pure electric cars were newly registered in 2024. This was more than a quarter less than the year before. To increase the attractiveness of e-mobility, cheaper models as well as affordable and transparent charging prices are crucial, the ADAC also emphasized.
