Taxi fares are going up: Schwerin increases prices for rides and surcharges.

Passengers in Schwerin will have to contend with rising costs. As of the turn of the year 2026, new tariffs will come into effect, affecting base prices, per-kilometre charges and waiting times. Higher fees will also apply to accessible taxis.

As of the turn of the year 2026, taxi rides in Schwerin will be more expensive. The Ludwigslust-Parchim district, as the competent approval authority, has adopted the fourth amendment to the Taxi Regulation. The new tariffs apply from 1 January 2026. The City of Schwerin published the corresponding notice on 3 November 2025.

Jurisdiction lies with the district

The setting of taxi fares in the state capital is not carried out by the city administration, but by the Ludwigslust-Parchim district. The basis is the Passenger Transport Act in conjunction with the state regulations of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, which transfer jurisdiction to the district.

Higher Base and Per-Kilometer Prices

With the new regulation, both base fares and per-kilometer prices rise significantly.
The base price in the day tariff (06:00 to 22:00) increases from 4.00 to 4.50 euros. In the night, Sunday and holiday tariff (22:00 to 06:00), a base price of 4.90 euros will apply in the future; previously it was 4.50 euros.

Per-kilometer prices are also increased. In the day tariff, the first and second kilometers will cost 4.00 euros per kilometer (previously 3.40 euros), the third and fourth kilometers 3.50 euros (previously 2.50 euros). From the fifth kilometer, a rate of 2.30 euros applies (previously 2.10 euros).

In the night, Sunday and holiday tariff, prices rise to 4.30 euros for the first and second kilometer (previously 3.70 euros), 3.90 euros for the third and fourth kilometers (previously 2.90 euros), as well as 2.40 euros from the fifth kilometer (previously 2.20 euros).

Adjustments to Surcharges and Waiting Times

In addition to the driving costs, surcharges and waiting times are also more expensive. Waiting time will in the future be charged at 45.00 euros per hour, five euros more than before. For large-capacity taxis with at least six seats, from the fifth passenger a surcharge of 8.00 euros will be charged (previously 7.00 euros).

Also the charges for inclusion taxis rise. Transporting a person in a wheelchair will cost 19.00 euros per trip in the future (previously 17.50 euros). The transfer of a person, which requires two transport personnel, will be charged at 38.00 euros (previously 35.00 euros).

Technical and organizational changes

The regulation introduces the term “fare price indicator/EU taximeter.” This constitutes an adjustment to European technical standards. Taxi companies have eight weeks from the date of entry into force to switch their devices to the new tariffs. The transitional period ends on 26 February 2026.

Until the changeover, the tariff of the third Amendment Ordinance of 27 January 2023 remains in effect. During the transition period, there may therefore temporarily be different price indications for comparable rides.

Continuation of tariff development

The new regulation continues a series of adjustments made in recent years. The current tariffs have been in effect since February 2023. According to the justification of the approving authority, the increases respond to higher operating costs and are intended to safeguard the economic basis of the taxi industry in Schwerin.
