BVTM sets new priorities in patient transport and mobility policy.
The conference was also the first substantive appearance of the newly elected board. Accordingly, it was less about detail questions than about fundamentals: How can the association refine its role in a rapidly evolving mobility landscape? And how can political demands be formulated so that they are relevant beyond one's own sector?
Joint Guiding Principle for the BVTM
Gregor Beiner, president of the Federal Association of Taxi and Rental Cars, stated the aim clearly.
“We will not stop clearly naming the problems and challenges – but we must not stop there,” he said. “Our companies deliver daily solutions to mobility-policy challenges of the future. We must describe these answers more clearly, advocate them more confidently, and present them in a positive light.”
On the first day, the board members worked in working groups. The focus was on the question of how the taxi and rental car industry can become a more visible part of public mobility debates – and what structural prerequisites are necessary to securely safeguard patient transport in the long term. The results were consolidated in the plenary session, discussed and further developed.
Bundled Expertise in the Federal Association
This also concerned the self-understanding of the trade. Beiner argued in favor of focusing more on its own competencies:
„We must put our strengths more in the foreground again and convey the joy of applying the power of our trade to the mobility of people.” And further: “This also includes telling more positive stories – about reliability, social responsibility and the role of our companies as an indispensable part of the provision of essential public services. The degree of digitalization also plays a central role in this. And we look ahead and ask ourselves daily what we can do better, how and with whom.”
The second day was dedicated to implementation. Possible adjustments to the passenger transport law as well as the 2026 annual planning – from events to internal association work – were discussed. The national association aims to present itself more broadly on a thematic level. Beiner put it this way:
„Unsere politischen Ziele spiegeln sich in unserer Veranstaltung direkt wider: Wir werden über die reinen Taxithemen hinaus uns stärker als bislang in gesamtgesellschaftliche Fragen einbringen, von der Zukunft des ÖPNV über neue, integrierte Mobilitätslösungen in der gesamten Kette bis hinein in die Gesundheitspolitik.“
Taxi as part of the Mobility of the Future
With the offsite retreat in Kassel, the national association sets a clear starting point for the work of the new board. The ambition is clearly formulated, but far-reaching: The taxi and rental-car industry should be perceived as a constructive actor—visible, solution-oriented, and present in the central debates on mobility in the coming years.
